Got myself a E200 CDI ex-Taxi in Sept. 2023 and drove it for around 17k km now. You can add cirka 1L per 100km to the fuel consumption shown in the display. If the display says 5,8L / 100km average it's in reality 6,6 L / 100km calculated.

Gets up to speed well enough. Its a budget, comfortable car.
The fact you can see the fuel needle dropping in such a short space of time is worrying, although in a 2.5 Outback doing this it would simply fall off !
It's most likely due to the acceleration. It might be pushing it to the back due to the force of the acceleration. Might be going up again as soon as u stop.
